Article 148 in the Indian Constitution provides provision for appointment of Comptroller and Auditor General. CAG can be called as the watchdog of Public money. which means each rupee spend from govt. will be Monitored and Accounted for by CAG.

Article from148 to 151 mentioned about CAG who does Audit all receipts and expenditure of the Government of India and the state governments, including those of bodies and authorities substantially financed by the government.

 On 06th August 2020, The president Appointed Mr. Girish Chandra Murmu ( former Lieutenant of Jammu & Kashmir) as new CAG, Mr. Rajiv Mehrshi's term of service will end on 7th August 2020.

Appointment & Oath of affirmation:
CAG is appointed by the President of India with the suggestion of Prime Minister. Oath of affirmation before the president.

Service of tenure: 
65 years age or with completion of 6-year service, whichever is earlier.

Removal:
CAG can be removed with approval from the Both of houses, on the grounds of misbehavior and incapacity.

Functions :
as the provision in the Indian constitution & CAG DPC Act 1971 duties of CAG are,

1. Receipts and expenditure from the Consolidated Fund of India and of the State and Union Territory having a legislative assembly.
2. Trading, manufacturing, profit and loss accounts and balance sheets, and other subsidiary accounts kept in any Government department; Accounts of stores and stock kept in Government offices or departments.
3.Government companies as per the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013.
4.Corporations established by or under laws made by Parliament in accordance with the provisions of the respective legislation.
5. Authorities and bodies substantially financed from the Consolidated Funds of the Union and State Governments. Anybody or authority even though not substantially financed from the Consolidated Fund, the audit of which may be entrusted to the C&AG.
6. Grants and loans are given by Government to bodies and authorities for specific purposes.
Entrusted audits e.g. those of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies under Technical Guidance & Support (TGS).

Compensation: CAG receives INR250000/month and other facilities determined by the parliament from time to time.
