Tilak was an Extremist Freedom fighter with ambitious towards India's freedom. He dedicated his entire life to get freedom. He coined the slogan " freedom is my birthright". He was also called "Father of India Unrest".
Tilak was born in 1856 in Maharastra in a Hindu middle-class family, secured bachelor's degree from the University of Pune. He started his career as a Mathematics teacher, after started as a journalist where he inspired to join the India freedom movement.
In 1890, BG Tilak joined INA, He found the ways which Moderate's activities unnatural, opposed that took an aggressive stand against the Britishers. He was a pioneer of the Swaraj or Sel-rule Movement, made slogans like " Swaraj is My Birthright, & I shall have it", believed that swaraj is the key to the progress of the nation. He proposed to boycott British products and encourage them to use Swadeshi.
As he was one among the extremist called Lal-Bal-Pal, Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak & Bipin Chandra pal. Because of his speeches against the government, Britisher's sent him to Mandalay prison for 6yrs from 1908 to 1914. During his prison wrote many articles to provoke patriotism and Anarchy of British rule.
In 1916, Tilak re-joined INC started working with Annibesant on All India Home rule Mission from Pune. He started many festivals just to gather people to spread the national movement amongst the Indians. He used the Ganesha festival in the 1893 & Shivaji Festival in 1895 to bring unity.
He wrote 2 Major books,
1. Gita Rahsya (1915)
2. Arctic Home of the Vedas (1903)
He started 2 Newspapers such as Kesari in Marathi, Maratha in the English Language. Used these 2 newspapers to spread nationalism and to make Indian's Self- reliant. He promoted the swadeshi Movement, along with Tata started Bombay Swadeshi Stores.
